Ferozepur, May 31, 2019: As many as 245 persons with disability were distributed aids and appliances of Rs.36.96 lac, organized by General Insurance Corporation of India in association with ALIMCO and Red Cross Society.
Around 424 aids and appliances like Smartphone, Smart Cane, Motorized Tricycle, and Artificial Limbs were distributed in the camp inaugurated by Parminder Singh Pinki, MLA Ferozepur Urban and Chander Gaind, Deputy Commissioner. Namdeo Kadam, Assistant General Manager, GIC was also present on this occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Parminder Singh Pinki said, the initiative taken by the GIC to help the Persons with Disability by providing the needy appliances, is appreciable.
He said, the file for setting up of PGI in Ferozepur has been cleared by the Punjab Government and now there is a need to get it upgraded to AIMS.
Pinki said, “My mission is now to beautify Ferozepur as one of the best city of Punjab for which the Deputy Commissioner has already initiated the work and appreciated the graffiti art work on Railway Under Bridge of Basti Tankan Wali. Apart from this, he also shared about the installation of idols between Octroi Post No.7 to Nurshah Wali Crossing with idols of Mother-Daughter at the first crossing and Grown-up daughter at the second crossing with books around her an indication of studying.
He said, Ferozepur will be give a face-lift and Basti Tanka Wali will be given a new name for which he invited the suggestions from the residens.
Talking about the PwD who had come to get assistance from the camp, Pinki said, you all are like out family members and our doors are open 24x7 for needy persons.
Addressing the audience, Chander Gaind Deputy Commissioner said, “From the day one of my joining in Ferozepur, I am doing something for Ferozepur for beautification of the city and more are likely to be kicked off in the coming days. His aim is to give totally a new look to this border town.
He said, the funds to the tune of Rs.20 crore have been arranged under the CSR Scheme and out of which the first instalment of Rs.5 crore has already been received which will be utilized for providing the RO System, Sanitary Napkin Machine, setting up of Aanganwadi Centres etc.
Shortly the war against drugs will be intensified and this campaign has already been started by holding a one-ton-one meeting with the heads of the schools in the district. Now he himself will be visiting the villages, meeting the people to eradicate the menace of drugs from the district.
Namdeo Kadam, Assistant Genral Manager, said, the GIC is organising ten such camps in different parts of the country and today is the third one, followed by the remaining seven camps. He said, shortly a mega camp will again be oragnized in Ferozepur to providing aid to the needy persons after proper identification with the help of Red Cross Ferozepur.
In all, the Persons with Disability in today’s camp were provided 23 motorized tricycles, one Child tricycle, 54 tricycle adult, 4 wheel chair child, 26 wheel chair adult, 3 CP Wheel Chair, 5 MSIED Kit, 112 BTE, 112 Battery, 16 Walking sticks, 4 Elbow crutches large, 10 medium crutches, 26 crutches large, 6 Rolators, 46 Smart Canes, 37 Smart Phones, 7 Daizy Player, and 44 Callipers Limbs.
