MLA calls upon youths to wage a war against drug menace
Anti-drug awareness program held by Ludhiana Administration
Gurusar Sadhar (Ludhiana), July 8, 2022: Led by MLA Raikot Hakam Singh Thekedar over 600 youths today pledge to wage a war against the drug menace in the district during an anti-drugs awareness event held here at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, Ludhiana.
Addressing the youngsters, the MLA urged them to make collective efforts to eliminate this menace from the society to carve out a drug free district by encouraging the drug affected persons to come out of this vicious circle. He further stated that addiction to drugs was not in the interest of any human being. He said that dependence on drugs creates havoc for the family and ruins everyone. The MLA also said that the motivation of shunning the drugs comes from inside and support of family was must for that.
SDM Raikot Sub Division Gurbir Singh Kohli threw light on the efforts being made by the district administration Ludhiana to wipe out the menace of drugs from the district. He said that on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik a mammoth drive has been started to create maximum awareness among masses sonas to keep this menace under check.
The SDM said that it is the social responsibility of everyone to inform the police about the drug peddlers who create menace in the lives of people. He advised the students that they should come forward to end this lethal problem. He also extended the vote of thanks to the speakers, audience and the college.
During his address Principal GHG Khalsa College Dr. Harpreet Singh lauded the efforts of Ludhiana Administration for taking up such initiatives to appraise people of the ill-effects of drug abuse through victims itself.
Dr. Gurpartap Singh presented power point presentation through which he explained the types of addictions, their disorders and precautions. He also gave the details of opioid addiction and its dangerous effects on physical and mental health of people. He also discussed the common misconceptions of opioid consumption. He further said that the media can play a pivital role to cope with this problem. Moreover, he added that the mass awareness programmes should be conducted at schools and colleges and there should be an easy access to rehabilitation centres.
Afterwards, a student of Raikot Public School, Raikot, Prabhjot Kaur gave a speech on drug addiction while ASI Satveer Singh, Incharge of Saanjh Kendra Sadhar and Dakha, encouraged the students to fight against drugs to save the youngsters and their families.
Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included Principal Dr. Pargat Singh Garcha, Professor Jaswant Singh, Dr Gurmeet Singh Hundal, Professor Inderjeet Singh and entire faculty of the college.
