MLA Grewal, DC and MC Commissioner take stock of the situation as level of buddha nullah rises due to flash floods in upper reaches in upstream districts
Amid concern over the rising level of buddha nullah, Ludhiana East MLA Daljit Singh Bhola Grewal, Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr Shena Aggarwal conducted joint inspections at different points of the nullah on Thursday.
Ludhiana, July 6, 2023: Amid concern over the rising level of buddha nullah, Ludhiana East MLA Daljit Singh Bhola Grewal, Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr Shena Aggarwal conducted joint inspections at different points of the nullah on Thursday.
Taking stock of the situation, the authorities stated that the level of the buddha nullah rose due to flash floods in upper reaches in upstream districts. The authorities reassured that the administration and MC is committed to take strong measures to keep the situation under control.
The district administration officials have been in the field since last night and inspected different points of the nullah including Bhamian Kalan (outside MC limits), Tajpur road, Shivpuri, New Kundanpuri, Haibowal among others.
Speaking of the incident wherein nullah overflowed from one of the points on Tajpur road, the authorities stated that corrective steps were taken soon after the alert was raised by locals. The slum dwellers in the area were shifted to a nearby school and food along with other amenities was arranged for them.
MLA Grewal, DC Malik and MC Commissioner Dr Aggarwal stated that no breach was reported and the nullah just overflowed from one of the points after the level of nullah rose due to flash floods in upper reaches in upstream districts.
The officials stated that MC has deployed poclain and JCB machines for regular cleaning of nullah within the city limits. The XEN of irrigation department has also been directed to remove wild growth of plants from the entire stretch of nullah in district Ludhiana.
They stated that advance preparations were made by the civic body due to which the situation remained under control even as the level of nullah rose after the flash floods in upper reaches in upstream districts.
MC Commissioner Dr Aggarwal stated that strict directions have also been issued to the concerned officials of the civic body to ensure regular cleaning of road gullies across the city. Sand bags have also been arranged to deal with any kind of emergency situation during the monsoon season.
She further stated that senior officials are regularly monitoring the situation and residents can contact the flood control room of MC (0161-2749120) in case of any emergency.
DC Surabhi Malik stated that two SDMs, Tehsildars and other senior officials from District Administration Ludhiana have been deputed who are keeping a close tab on the level of Budha Nullah in the district.
