MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi says capacity of all STPs to be increased to 1200 MLD
Existing capacity of 703 MLD insufficient to tackle present day needs; capacity to be increased by securing funds from govt: MLA Gogi
Ludhiana, April 20, 2022: Ludhiana (West) MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi today said that the capacity of all Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) would be increased to 1200 MLD as the existing capacity of 703 MLD is insufficient to tackle present day needs. He said that the capacity would be increased keeping in mind the future requirements so that people do not suffer.
He directed the Punjab Water Supply & Sewerage Board officials to prepare a detailed proposal in this regard, after which he would take up this issue with Punjab government for securing funds.
MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi said this during a meeting held at MC Zone D office in Sarabha Nagar, here today. This meeting was also attended by MC Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal, Zonal Commissioner Jasdev Singh Sekhon, besides several other senior officials.
The Ludhiana (West) MLA said that the current capacity of all STPs (including those under construction) is 703 MLD (million litres per day). He said that as per rough estimate, one person uses around 150-165 litres of water daily and keeping in mind the population of district Ludhiana, the existing capacity of 703 MLD is not even sufficient for current population of the city.

He also directed the Punjab Water Supply & Sewerage Board officials to immediately dissolve the current monitoring committee and instead formulate a new committee consisting of experts.
He also took up the issue of demolition by Forest Department officials in Sidhwan Water Front project. He directed the MC Commissioner to ensure that responsibility of officials is fixed. The MC Commissioner informed that MC Additional Commissioner Aditya Dachalwal is already conducting an inquiry in this regard and would table his report shortly.
