Ludhiana: Ar Sanjay Goel, Director- Ludhiana Smart City Ltd (LSCL) and Chairman - IIA Punjab Chapter has written to the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri and Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh demanding that more hospitals are required in upcoming smart cities.

In an email message to both the Union Minister and the Punjab Chief minister he has stated that “smart hospitals can provide best health services to  citizens and further smart citizens can  assist government in smart cities mission. Smart health is most important in society to produce more and more smart citizens. Smart city mission can be achieved through support of healthy and educated citizens but unfortunately focus of government on quality and quantity of healthcare facilities seems to be still on lower side, inspite of ongoing covid crisis since March 2020.”

He further wrote that “role of architects and architecture department is most important to not only design new hospitals but to redesign existing hospitals.”

He said within city limits, we must have state of the art government hospitals which must further act as case studies for remaining cities and towns.

Keeping population of India or smart cities in mind, number of hospitals/beds available are very less in our cities. Before creating beautiful/landscaped cities, we must jointly (centre and state government) plan best liveable cities, he added.

Further, he mentioned, “majority people , even poor prefer non government hospitals for critical care (like covid, cancer etc) as there is always a huge difference between excellent health services available in government and private hospitals.”

Concluding he stated that “my request as one of the nominated architect director (representing Punjab Architects as Chairman) in Ludhiana Smart City Ltd to centre and state government to allocate more funds for hospitals at least in upcoming smart cities and direct CEOs to give more time, energy and money to fight covid 19.”
