MP Arora Urges Farmers to Diversify Crops, Highlights Agriculture’s Role in Economic Growth at PAU Kisan Mela

Ludhiana, March 22, 2025: Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora emphasised the crucial role of farmers in driving the country’s economic growth while addressing the closing ceremony of two-day Kisan Mela at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, on Saturday.
Reflecting on India’s agricultural progress, Arora noted that the country once relied on foodgrain imports but is now self-sufficient and even exports surplus produce. He highlighted the importance of Kisan Melas in equipping farmers with the latest agricultural knowledge and urged them to adopt PAU’s recommendations to boost food production. He asserted that higher yields would not only enhance farmers' incomes but also strengthen the state and national economy.
Encouraging crop diversification, Arora advised farmers to move beyond traditional crops like paddy and wheat and explore alternatives such as fruits and vegetables. He also praised the increasing awareness among farmers, citing the 700-800 questions submitted at the Mela as a positive sign of their engagement with PAU experts.
Arora further stressed the strong link between agriculture and industry, noting that industrial growth depends on agricultural prosperity. He cited the textile sector as an example, explaining that increased cotton production would directly benefit the industry.
On this occasion, PAU Vice Chancellor Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal honored MP Sanjeev Arora with a memento in recognition of his support for the farming community.
