Ludhiana, May 11, 2023: MP Arora as a part of Parliamentary Standing Committee on health & Family Welfare visited AIIMS & National Institute of TB & Respiratory Diseases.

Dr M Srinivas, Director of AIIMS along with senior members of faculty welcomed all the members of committee and briefed on AIIMS. AIIMS was built under guidance of first Health Minister of India Rajkumari Amrit Kaur in 1956 by an act of Parliament It is built on 213 Acres of Land in the heart of Delhi. 

Director briefed on the working of AIIMS having 3000 Beds. AIIMS is an institution where patients come from the whole of the country. He explained that they are doing their best to minimize waiting periods for patients. OPD of AIIMS is always overflown in all the departments. He also briefed during visit of their Smart Lab that how they are buying now different equipment made in India. According to Director the equipment Made in India is equivalent to international standards & one third the cost. However, he said Government should make exception in some specialties to import equipment from abroad which is not being Made in India yet. He said as of now they are completely restricted from importing anything. He also assured MPs that full protocol will be followed on their recommendations.

AIIMS has also started Burn unit recently and it is state of the art facility. 

On request by Arora Dr Srinivas assured him to visit Ludhiana especially DMCH of which Arora is Vice President as and when asked for. Arora thanked the Director for the courtesy shown and briefing received which will help a lot in upgrading medical facilities in the State of Punjab.

Further Arora visited the National Institute of TB where Director Dr Ravindra Dewan briefed on activities being carried out by institute to minimize cases of TB in country. Arora along with all members visited wards and saw a new robotic surgery mechanism which is again Made in India. Director informed that they are coming up soon with state-of-the-art Multi storied building for patients. He also showed moving clinic which is sent in different areas having all the tests and x-ray machine.

Arora suggested the Director ask for more funds and make the institute even better.
