Chandigarh, August 8, 2024: Shri Anandpur Sahib MP Malwinder Singh Kang today raised a demand in the Lok Sabha, urging the government to increase the number of international flights from Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Mohali, named after the great martyr Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, to benefit the people of Punjab.

MP Malwinder Singh Kang highlighted a media group survey that reveals 25% of passengers from Punjab travel daily to Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport to catch flights to various countries. He stated that if the central government increases the number of international flights from Bhagat Singh International Airport in Mohali, it would significantly reduce road traffic between Chandigarh and Delhi, allowing people to avoid traffic congestion and pollution.

MP Malwinder Singh Kang also emphasized that people from Punjab and various countries visit sacred sites such as Sri Darbar Sahib, the birthplace of the Khalsa Sri Amritsar Sahib, Sri Anandpur Sahib, Sri Chamkaur Sahib, Mata Naina Devi, and Vaishno Devi to pay their respects. Additionally, due to the high cost of treatment abroad, people from Punjab often seek affordable medical care within the state.

He concluded by stressing that there is a significant demand from Punjab for the central government to increase the number of international flights from Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Mohali, to provide much-needed relief to those traveling between Punjab and abroad.
