MP Randeep Sarai Endorsed EcoSikh’s Campaign ‘Guru Nanak 550’ in the Canadian Parliament
Surrey, Canada: Canadian Sikh MP, Randeep Sarai endorsed EcoSikh’s initiative of planting one million trees worldwide to commemorate Guru Nanak Dev ji’s 550th birth anniversary in 2019. During his speech, at the Parliament of Canada in Ottawa, he congratulated the entire house and announced that the Sikh community will celebrate the next Gurpurab by with the focus on Climate Change and giving back to the mother earth. In a meeting with Randeep Sarai at his Surrey office, EcoSikh General Secretary Jaspreet Singh and Project Manager Ravneet Singh thanked the MP for raising his voice for climate change in the parliament and sharing the Guru’s vision for the sustainability of the planet. Randeep Sarai shared various environmental issues of Canada, especially where the Sikh community and the Gurdwaras can play a big role in sustainability programmes ran by the Canadian government. Randeep Sarai also acknowledged that organisations like EcoSikh are need of the hour and it can provide a lot of good direction to communities via it’s environment awareness and Green Gurdwaras initiatives. The discussions were more focused on plantations, energy efficiency and trash management from Sikh institutions. While EcoSikh team shared the that a Sikhs from Ontario offered two acres of land in Caledon (Ontario) for planting trees in the memory of Guru Nanak. Randeep Sarai offered his help to create a network of Sikhs who would ensure participation of Sikhs in Surrey and around in reaching the one million-trees target.
