Ludhiana, September 8, 2016: In order to check the
mushrooming of illegal buildings, the Municipal Corporation Commissioner
Ghanshyam Thori has got a survey of under construction buildings conducted in
the city and the officials deputed on the task have prepared a list of total
832 buildings on Thursday. Now, they would verify these buildings whether
owners of the buildings have got the building plans approved or not.
According to survey report out of 832 buildings 154 buildings
in Zone A, 242 in the Zone B, 184 in Zone C and 252 in Zone D are under
construction. It took almost 15 days to complete the survey and 75 SDO and JE
from O&M cell and B&R branch were deputed on the task. Since there is
extreme shortage of the staff in building branch, therefore engineering staff
was used.
Notably, MC Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori had got conducted
one such survey earlier also and at that list of 254 buildings was prepared.
After taking the action against the defaulters the MC recovered Rs 1.5 crores.
Not only recovery but also demolition of illegal structures of these buildings
were also demolished.
The MCL Commissioner, Ghanshyam Thori told that main aim
behind this move is to curb the construction of illegal buildings before its
completion so he had got this survey done. He further told that it was decided
in the meeting of Finance and Contracts Committee that defaulters over 150
square yards should be checked and all these buildings are being constructed in
above 150 square yards area. He told that now one month time will be given for
recovery from compoundable portion and demolition of non compoundable portion.
Due to regular recovery drives there is improvement in the
recovery of composition fees as compared to previous year. This year from April
1 till September 7 MCL recovered Rs 4.85 crores while last year recovery during
same period was Rs 3.24 crores. This way recovery from building branch
composition is 150 percent more than last year.
