Ludhiana, September 9, 2016: Taking stringent action against defaulters for the defacement of walls where graffiti work was done the Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori has recommended registration of FIR against them. A letter has been written to the Police Commissioner for getting the FIR registered and a copy has also been forwarded to the Deputy Commissioner for looking into the matter.

MCL has got the graffiti art done at various locations in city and it had been praised by everybody but at certain locations the posters carrying advertisements has defaced the walls. The MC Commissioner has recommended FIR for defacement at four locations that is Gill bridge, Dugri Chowk, Jagraon Bridge and Dholewal Bridge.

The field staff of MCL after checking at these locations informed that at Gill Bridge and Dugri Chowk the graffiti work has been spoiled with posters in support of Gurdeep Dhaliwal election candidate for president post of PCTE College, political posters and posters related to the new music album release of a singer. Similarly at iron grills of Jagraon Bridge and Dholewal Chowk posters of program of Sant Baba Isher Singh have been pasted and graffiti is spoiled.

It is clear violation of section 123 Punjab Municipal Corporation Act 1976 and Defacement of Property Act 1977. The MCL Commissioner has recommended stringent action against the defaulters because it is not only defacing the city walls but also demoralizing the artists and private firms who are supporting this cause.

Thori warned the defaulters and said, "Defacement of graffiti will not be tolerated at any cost so I have recommended FIR against such defaulters. We are putting lots of efforts in beautifying the city walls and underbridges with graffiti art and we will not let it spoiled due to some people." He demanded that action should also be taken against agencies that paste such posters because sometimes the original vendor is not aware.
