'My husband is son of Haryana', says Arvind Kejriwal's wife as AAP sounds poll bugle
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday sounded the election bugle for the Haryana Assembly elections here with the wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Sunita Kejriwal, saying that her husband is "the son of Haryana", and she was married to him in 1994.
Panchkula (Haryana), July 20 (IANS) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday sounded the election bugle for the Haryana Assembly elections here with the wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Sunita Kejriwal, saying that her husband is "the son of Haryana", and she was married to him in 1994.
"At that time, Arvind ji's family lived in Hisar. His father used to work there. Arvind ji was born in Siwani village, but his education and upbringing took place in Hisar," Sunita Kejriwal said at the state-level programme in Panchkula, near here, where she launched five guarantees to woo electorates.
Accompanied by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, the party's national general secretary Sandeep Pathak, state party chief Sushil Gupta, among others, Sunita said Arvind Kejriwal has given five guarantees to the public -- the first of which will be free domestic electricity like Delhi and Punjab.
"There will be provision of electricity 24 hours a day," she said.
"The second guarantee is that, like Delhi and Punjab, we will work on building mohalla clinics in every village and every city. Government hospitals will be good, everyone will get good and free treatment.
"The third guarantee will be to make government schools better, where good and free education will be provided. The fourth guarantee will be to give Rs 1,000 every month to our mothers and sisters. And the fifth guarantee will provide employment for every unemployed youth," Sunita Kejriwal said.
She said "God wants him to do something big".
"Arvind ji contested elections for the first time and became the Chief Minister of Delhi. He created a stir in the country's politics. Did such work which no other party could do. Today, people all over the world know Arvind Kejriwal for his work," she added.
Sunita Kejriwal said that her husband improved the government schools of Delhi and Punjab.
"Made the future of poor children brighter. Made wonderful mohalla clinics and hospitals, where free and good treatment is provided. He made the electricity free. Women were given the facility to travel free in the bus. Organised free pilgrimage for the elderly and gave an honorarium of Rs 1,000 to every woman every month. Only Haryana's 'Lal' Arvind Kejriwal can do this."
Meanwhile, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said that Arvind Kejriwal and his wife Sunita left the Income Tax Department job to serve the public.
"We do not consider politics as a business, it is not a profession but a passion. If the leaders of other parties were right, then what was the need for us to form a party? They challenged us to do it. We did it, so now they are saying don't come.
"The people of Haryana gave every party a chance. But no one turned out to be good. When we went to Jind, Kaithal, Tohana and Sonipat to hold rallies, people used to tell us that if you are doing such good work in Delhi and Punjab, then come to Haryana also, so that our standard of living also becomes higher," he added.
