NARCOTICS SEIZURE: Rs. 25 Cr heroin seized, 2 arrested

Amritsar, October 25, 2012: State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar, a unit of Counter Intelligence wing of Punjab Police, achieved a major success in its drive against cross border smuggling of narcotics and FICN with the arrest of notorious smugglers namely Jassa Singh alias Jassa S, resident of village Manjh in Amritsar district and Harpal Singh alias Rinka, resident of Lopoke in Amritsar district.

Acting on a tip-off, a specially constituted police party under the directions and supervision of Rashpal Singh, AIG/SSOC, Punjab, Amritsar, apprehended the accused from Ram Tirath road (Ghanupur Kale Mor), Amritsar, when they were waiting for a party to deliver the consignment of heroin and FICN in their car Scorpio (white) numbered PB-02-AU-8329

Five kilograms of heroinalongwith Rs. 2.25 lakh of fake Indian currency was recovered from their possession.

A case under Sections 21/25/29/61/85 NDPS Act, 489-A,B,C, 420, 120-B IPC has been registered at Police Station State Special Operation Cell.

The recovered consignment of heroin is valued at Rs 25 crore in international market, said the police.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that, the duo accused were allegedly indulging in cross border smuggling of heroin and FICN and was forwarding the same to different destinations like Amritsar and Delhi. It has also been revealed that the accused have delivered two consignments of heroin, recently at different destinations.

Police said efforts were on to track and apprehend the smugglers who had taken the delivery of heroin from the accused. 

Further, police told that investigations were being conducted on different lines to unearth the complete nexus and network of this gang. The Pak connection of the consignment was being worked out. The exact area from which the consignment was pushed into India was being identified, said the police adding that more arrests were likely.
