During his visit, Prime Minister Modi engaged in discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump on various key issues, including terrorism, bilateral trade, defense cooperation, and the potential purchase of F-35 fighter jets.
It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Modi has consistently worked towards enhancing Indo-U.S. relations. In his previous tenure, he engaged in discussions with former U.S. Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, as well as President Donald Trump. Now, in his second term, Modi continues his efforts to fortify ties between India and the United States.
During their meeting, both leaders addressed a wide range of topics, including weapons sales and trade agreements. A significant development was the U.S. commitment to supplying India with F-35 fighter jets. Additionally, both nations agreed to enhance cooperation in diverse sectors such as energy, technology, and defense.
Looking ahead, there is optimism that Indo-U.S. relations will continue to strengthen, with possibilities for technological exchange and deeper economic collaboration.
U.S. Immigration Policies and Their Impact on India
During the 2025 U.S. presidential elections, Donald Trump’s party emphasized strict immigration policies, pledging to deport illegal immigrants if voted back into power. His campaign centered around the "America First" policy, prioritizing jobs for American citizens. Since assuming office, President Trump has begun enforcing deportation measures against illegal migrants, particularly those who entered the U.S. via the "Dunki Route"—an illegal entry method through the Mexico border and other adjacent areas. Following the president's orders, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel have intensified deportation efforts.
India’s Response to Illegal Immigration
In response, the Indian government, along with the Punjab state administration, has initiated a crackdown on travel agents involved in facilitating illegal immigration. The authorities are actively working to curb the exploitation of innocent individuals who seek better opportunities abroad through unlawful means.
Despite these challenges, Indian youth remain eager to explore international opportunities to secure brighter futures. To address this issue, both the central and state governments should focus on creating more employment opportunities within the country. By fostering economic growth and ensuring sufficient job prospects, young Indians can achieve self-sufficiency and contribute to their families’ well-being without resorting to illegal migration.
