Ludhiana, November 29, 2024: The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, in collaboration with the district administration, will launch a mass awareness campaign under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan movement to combat drug abuse and work towards creating a drug-free Ludhiana.
Upon their arrival in Ludhiana, Joint Secretary of Social Defence, Radhika Chakravarthy, along with Director Parveen Kumar Thind and Special Secretary Keshav Hingonia, was welcomed by Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal and Additional Deputy Commissioners Dr. Harjinder Singh Bedi and Amarjit Bains.
During the meeting, Joint Secretary Chakravarthy explained that the Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign employs a three-pronged strategy that includes curbing supply through the Narcotics Control Bureau and police, outreach and awareness initiatives, and demand reduction efforts led by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. She noted that a district-level Nasha Mukt Abhiyan Committee, chaired by the DC, consists of representatives from health, education, women and child welfare, the police, and NGOs working in this field.
Chakravarthy emphasized that the time has come for the fight against drugs to evolve into a mass movement focused on making Punjab, particularly Ludhiana, drug-free. She encouraged everyone to work diligently towards this goal and highlighted that the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment would conduct extensive awareness activities in the coming months to educate the community, particularly youth, about the harmful effects of drug abuse.
Further, Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Harjinder Singh Bedi assured that the administration would develop an effective roadmap to strengthen the campaign against drugs, promising that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure its success.
