NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION GETS STRICT REGARDING MISUSE OF ITS NAME & LOGO

Ludhiana, December 24, 2018: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has gotten strict over the misuse of its name and logo by disgruntled and mischievous elements of society. As per the communique received from the NHRC, New Delhi, no
person would be allowed to use name and logo similar to that of NHRC as well as the State Human Rights Commissions without their permission. And if any person or organisation indulges in such an act, then strict action would be taken against them as it is illegal.
Deputy Commissioner Mr Pardeep Kumar Agrawal informed that the NHRC, New Delhi, has written a letter to the Chief Secretary Punjab stating that as per the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1950, the name of NHRC is mentioned at number 26 & 27 of this Act. He said that several sections of this Act restrict anyone from misusing name and logo of NHRC or keeping similar names and logos to that of
the national commission.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that if person is caught indulging in such an act, then strict legal action would be taken against them, besides he can be fined as well as penalised.
He said that it has come to the notice of the NHRC that some societies and NGOs get themselves registered as a society/trust/company etc and start using names or logos similar to NHRC or State Human Rights Commission, which is illegal.
