LUDHIANA, MARCH 20, 2018: A National Lok Adalat will be held in Ludhiana, Khanna, Jagraon and Payal courts on April 14, 2018 in which cases including civil, compoundable criminal cases, revenue cases, traffic challan, claim cases, motor vehicle cases would be taken up for disposal.

On Tuesday, a meeting was held by District and Sessions Judge-cum-District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Chairman Gurbir Singh which was attended by Additional District and Sessions Judge KK Kareer, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Jaapinder Singh, CJM-cum-Secretary DLSA Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, ADCP Kuldeep Sharma, District Attorney Ravinder Abrol and others.

DLSA Chairman Gurbir Singh said that the decision taken into these Lok Adalats is the final, which cannot be challenged into any other courts. He also claimed that Lok Adalats save time and money of the people and help in maintaining peace in the society.

Secretary DLSA Dr Gurpreet Kaur further informed that Civil cases like rent, bank recovery, Easementary rights, Revenue Cases, MNREGA, Electricity & Water Bills (excluding theft cases), Service matters relating to pay and allowances and retiral benefits, Forest Act cases, Disaster Compensation, Criminal Compoundable Cases, Complaints under Section 138 of Negotiable Instruments Act, Covered matters, would be taken up by the Courts of Civil Judges or Judicial Magistrates in the Lok Adalat.

Dr. Gurpreet Kaur also said that Lok Adalat is the best way to achieve cheap and quicker resolution of disputes. The disputes resolved through Lok Adalat are on the basis of mutually acceptable terms, she added.
