Pushpa Gujral Science City in collaboration with Punjab State Council for Science & Technology, Chandigarh celebrated “National Mathematics Day”  to mark the birth anniversary of the great Indian mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan by organizing hands on activities session on Mathematics.

Kapurthala, December 20, 2024: Pushpa Gujral Science City in collaboration with Punjab State Council for Science & Technology, Chandigarh celebrated “National Mathematics Day”  to mark the birth anniversary of the great Indian mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan by organizing hands on activities session on Mathematics.

The main goal of the programme was to develop curiosity and interest among young students and to motivate them to take up careers in Mathematics. The theme for this year celebration was Mathematics: The Bridge to Innovation and Progress.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rajesh Grover, Director, Science City, emphasized that mathematics is essential in all aspects of life and scientific research. He mentioned that many students develop a fear of math due to challenges in understanding it through textbooks. He highlighted the importance of nurturing mathematical skills informally, particularly among school students. Further, PGSC's Mathematics Gallery, equipped with hands-on exhibits, helps students improve their problem-solving and critical thinking skills while experiencing mathematical concepts interactively, he added.  

On this occasion State Awardee Ms. Rumani Ahuja, was resource person. She motivated school students with innovative techniques, shortcut tricks for solving math problems. She demonstrated the magic of math using origami. During the session, she demonstrated how the different concepts of Math can be understood easily using working models, math kits and games. She urged students to focus on strong basics, as they are key to understanding advanced concepts more easily and effectively.
