National Pharmacovigilance Week celebrations concludes at UIPS
Chandigarh, September 23, 2021: University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarh in association with Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA), Punjab branch, organised a webinar on Pharmacovigilance: Vanguard for patient safety by Mr Gurpreet Singh, Associate Director, Medical Writing, Parexel, Chandigarh, today.
Mr Gurpreet is an alumnus with professional experience of more than 10 years in Pharmacovigilance industry and managing diverse & critical pharmacovigilance activities, including Signal management, aggregate reports and Individual Case Safety Reports (ICSRs).
Mr Gurpreet recapitulated the term Pharmacovigilance by discussing its components, goals, processes involved and the measure to minimize the risks associated with medication use. He apprised the audience with the current scenario of Pharmacovigilance in India and shared the latest requirements & national programs by the regulatory agencies for its further promotion. He emphasized the necessity to adopt appropriate risk minimization measures like reporting of adverse events & unapproved usage by health care professionals; periodic review & submission of data at the individual and aggregate level; including assessment of benefit-risk balance.
Mr. Gurpreet, shed light on the career options available for students in Pharmacovigilance and encouraged the participants that you being pharmacists are on the upper edge over rest and can grab the opportunity.
Professor Indu Pal Kaur, Chairperson, UIPS and Secretary, IPA Panjab Branch, in her opening remarks stated that Pharmacovigilance is becoming the important aspect of pharmacy profession and there is need to acquire skills to opt it as a career.
Professor Poonam Piplani, Convener Lecture Organizing Team, spearheaded the entire event proceedings and introduced the speaker.
The webinar, concluded with virtual weeklong celebrations on National Pharmacovigilance Week, from 17th -23rd September and served as a platform for communication & knowledge enrichment of students, faculty, and health professionals.
