National Press Day:  Seminar on 'Changing form of journalism'

Responsible and value-based journalism is the need of the hour. Today, journalism will have to bring a sense of responsibility towards society and the nation. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Rohtak Narendra Kumar expressed these views in a seminar organized on the topic 'Changing form of journalism'.

Rohtak, November 16, 2024 Responsible and value-based journalism is the need of the hour. Today, journalism will have to bring a sense of responsibility towards society and the nation. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Rohtak Narendra Kumar expressed these views in a seminar organized on the topic 'Changing form of journalism'.

This seminar was organized by the Department of Information, Public Relations and Languages (Haryana Government) on National Press Day.

ADC Narendra Kumar, while wishing media personnel on National Press Day, said that they should convey correct information to the public by reporting with responsibility and ethics. He said that the press is the fourth pillar of democracy because the media acts as a bridge between the public and the government. He said that media personnel should publish news only after thorough investigation of the facts, so that correct information reaches the public. Also, a follow up of various matters must be done. He suggested avoiding 'media trial'. 

A faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication and Director, Public Relations of theMDU, Rohtak, Sunit Mukherjee said that in this era of prominence of digital media, the biggest challenge is to maintain the credibility of journalism. Sunil Mukherjee underlined the importance of journalism of public concerns. Describing print media as relevant and reliable even in this digital age, he highlighted the challenges faced by the media industry. He said that Fake News is the biggest challenge of today’s times. Sunit Mukherjee also discussed the history of the press and its changing forms. Dr. Krishna Kumar, Asst. Professor (journalism) from CRSU (Jind) mentioned the increasing role of technology in journalism. 

District Information and Public Relations Officer, Surendra Singh gave the welcome speech. He talked about the background of the changing form of journalism. He said that the media plays an important role in conveying information about the welfare schemes and programs of the government to the public.Various print, electronic and social media representatives also shared their experiences and explained in detail the challenges faced by the media.
