National seminar on “food security and sustainable development” under UGC-SAP DRS(II)
Chandigarh, September 19, 2019: National Seminar on “Food Security and Sustainable Development” was organised by Dr.SS Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Panjab University, Chandigarh under UGC-SAP (DRS-II). SAP Coordinator & Chairperson, Dr.SSBUICET Prof Sanchita Chauhan welcomed the dignitaries. Prof Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, PU in his address, highlighted the need of Food Security. He emphasised the need of eliminating hunger and poverty by scientific measure of ensuing food security in India. Dr. Narendra Singh, Additional Director, Defence Institute of High Altitude Research, DIHAR, DRDO in his keynote address on “Fresh Food Security and Sustainable Development in High Altitude Conditions of Ladakh”, highlighted the food related issues and challenges faced by people engaged in duty at high altitudes and gave an insight into the possible solutions which are the need for the present. He also emphasized the need of collaborative research between research organizations like DRDO and Panjab University. Dr. Prabodh S. Halde, Head, Technical Regulatory, Marico India Pvt. Ltd talked about the regulatory landscape of food safety and how the food security issues are evolving. He also encouraged the students to develop business concepts in food sector and to become entrepreneurs. Prof S K Soni, Chairperson, Department of Microbiology, PU deliberated on Food Security & Sustainable Development through Microbial Fermentation. About 200 participants from academia and industry participated in the seminar through oral presentations and exhibited their posters on the theme of the Seminar.
