National seminar on Artificial Intelligence and Punjabi Language

The Department of Punjabi at Guru Hargobind Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, Ludhiana, in collaboration with the College Development Council, Panjab University, Chandigarh, organised a national seminar on Artificial Intelligence and the Punjabi Language.

Ludhiana, February 17, 2025: The Department of Punjabi at Guru Hargobind Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, Ludhiana, in collaboration with the College Development Council, Panjab University, Chandigarh, organized a national seminar on Artificial Intelligence and the Punjabi Language. 

Dr. Gurpreet Singh Lehal, Senior Project Consultant at IIT Hyderabad, attended the seminar as the chief guest. In his address, he presented the history of Punjabi language usage in computers and highlighted the challenges faced in this field. He expressed satisfaction that the work he had started long ago is now being recognized as a necessity worldwide. 

Eminent thinker Amarjit Singh Grewall, in his keynote address, emphasized that artificial intelligence has significantly accelerated progress. He stressed that integrating AI is essential in today’s era but should be balanced with ethical considerations. He cautioned that if we become overly dependent on AI or abandon moral values while using it, it could lead to disastrous consequences. To overcome this challenge, he underscored the importance of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s philosophy. 

At the end of the inaugural session, Dr. Pargat Singh Garcha, Principal of GHG Khalsa College of Education, Gurusar Sadhar, expressed gratitude to all attendees. The seminar commenced with the College Shabad. College Principal S. Inderjit Singh welcomed the guests, and seminar coordinator Dr. Sohan Singh shared the event’s outline with the audience. Following the inaugural session, various technical sessions were held, featuring research paper presentations on different aspects of artificial intelligence. The presenters included Dr. C.P. Kamboj (Punjabi University, Patiala), Dr. Rohini Sharma (Panjab University, Chandigarh), Dr. Nachhattar Singh (Delhi University), Dr. Rajwinder Singh (Punjabi University, Patiala), and Dr. Umrinderpal Singh (GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar). The technical sessions were chaired by Dr. Buta Singh Brar (Retd. Professor, Punjabi University Regional Center, Bathinda) and Dr. Sukhwinder Singh Sangha (Retd. Professor, Guru Nanak Dev University, Regional Center, Jalandhar). The sessions witnessed active participation, with engaging discussions and questions from the audience.

At the end of the seminar, certificates were awarded to the research paper presenters, and Dr. Sohan Singh presented the seminar report. The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including Dr. Satwinder Kaur (Principal, GHG Khalsa College of Pharmacy), Dr. Jaspreet Kaur Gulati, Dr. Amarinder Kaur, Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Prof. S.K. Gupta, Prof. Tarsem Singh, Prof. Gurpreet Kaur, Prof. Amritpal Singh, and Prof. Gursharan Kaur.
