Ludhiana, March 21, 2025: The University Business School, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, successfully hosted a National Seminar on "Artificial Intelligence for Global Good: Social, Economic & Business Transformation." The seminar brought together leading academicians, researchers, and industry experts to explore the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across various domains, emphasizing its potential for driving economic growth, enhancing business processes, and addressing societal challenges.
Dr. Aman Amrit Cheema, Director of the Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the significance of AI in contemporary society. She congratulated the faculty, staff and students of UBS, Ludhiana for hosting this National Seminar on such a relevant theme. Dr. Ashish Saihjpal, MBA Coordinator, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the seminar's objectives and the importance of integrating AI into various domains.
Dr. Anuj Sharma, Chairperson, Department of Computer Science & Applications, Panjab University, Chandigarh, delivered the keynote address, providing deep insights into the evolving landscape of AI, highlighting its role in redefining decision-making, automation, and efficiency across industries. The session emphasized how AI-driven innovations are reshaping sectors such as healthcare, finance, supply chain management, and governance while also raising ethical and regulatory concerns. The Chief Guest, Mr. Uday Singh, Head of IT – CIO, Ludhiana Beverages Pvt. Ltd further elaborated on the significance of AI in economic policymaking, sustainable development, and business transformation. He also emphasized how AI based applications are transforming the day to day operations of the industry.
Major attraction of the event was the panel discussion on the theme of the Seminar. Panel comprising Dr. Anuj Sharma as moderator; Dr. Manpreet Arora from Central University of Himachal Pradesh; Ms. Maninder Kaur, Head of Artificial Intelligence at BCM Arya S. Sec Model School; and Mr. Chandan Mishra, Founder Recapi AI and Cofounder Trukoder & Smart Workforce AI. Panel of experts from academia and industry debated the challenges of algorithmic biases, data privacy concerns, and the need for responsible AI frameworks. Special emphasis was placed on the balance between technological advancement and human-centric policies to ensure AI benefits a broad spectrum of society.
Faculty Members, Research Scholars and students from various institutions presented research papers on AI's role in financial services and investment decision, digital learning as well as disease detection in plants, along with privacy concerns and other ethical implications of using AI systems. The seminar concluded with a valedictory session where Ms. Niti Singla presented a detailed report summarizing the key takeaways and discussions.
