The Department of Laws, Panjab University in collaboration with Bar Council of Punjab & Haryana (BCPH) organised Two Day National Seminar on "Completion of 50 Years of Basic Structure Doctrine: The Way Ahead” in a hybrid mode from 31st March 2023-1stApril 2023.

Chandigarh, April 1, 2023: The Department of Laws, Panjab University in collaboration with Bar Council of Punjab & Haryana (BCPH) organised Two Day National Seminar on "Completion of 50 Years of Basic Structure Doctrine: The Way Ahead” in a hybrid mode from 31st March 2023-1stApril 2023. The National Seminar was inaugurated by Chief Guest Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rajesh Bindal, Judge, Supreme Court of India. The other eminent dignitaries present were Hon’ble Mr. Justice Vikas Bahl, Judge-Punjab and Haryana High Court, and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Vikram Aggarwal, Judge-Punjab and Haryana High Court. The inauguration was also graced by the Vice Chancellor of Panjab University- Prof. Dr. Renu Vig; the Chairman of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana- Mr. Suvir Sidhu and the Chairperson of Department of Laws- Prof. Dr. Devinder Singh. Other eminent dignitaries from Panjab University,senior advocates,Shri Raj Kumar Chauhan- Co- Chairman-BCPH, Shri Lekh Raj Sharma- Chairman, Enrolment Committee of BCPHand other eminent members of bar council were also present.Retired senior faculty members and faculty members of Department of Laws were present for the inaugural ceremony. A book of abstracts was released at the inaugural ceremony.

The seminar was divided into two parts i.e., technical sessions and panel discussions.

The technical sessions were conducted in online and offline mode at the Department of Laws. Academicians, research scholars and students of law presented papers in hybrid mode.250 participants from eminent law institutions across India presented papers under various chairs in online and offline mode. Best presenter award in a session was presented to ten participants. Online technical Sessions were chaired by Prof. Anu, Law Faculty-I, Delhi University; Prof. Arti Puri- PURC- Ldh.; Prof. Tarun Arora- Central University- Bathinda; Dr. Pradeep Kumar Sharma- Chanakya University; Dr. Vishal Sharma- Bennett University; Dr. Vikram and Dr. Shweta Thakur- Galgotia University. Offline sessions were chaired by Dr. Deepak Srivastava- Associate Professor, HNLU, Raipur and Dr. Ashutosh Tripathi, Assistant Professor- UPES, Dehradun.

Five panel discussions were conducted on themes relating to the seminar. The panel discussions were chaired by Judges, Advocate Generals and Academicians. Some of the eminent panelists were Hon’ble Mr. Justice Vikas Bahl, Judge- Punjab & Haryana High Court; Hon’ble Mr. Justice Tribhuvan Dahiya, Judge- Punjab & Haryana High Court; Mr. Baldev Raj Mahajan, Sr. Advocate, A.G.- Haryana; Mr. Anup Kumar Rattan, AG- Government of Himachal; Prof. Emer. (Dr.) Virendra Kumar; Prof. Emer. (Dr.) Balram K. Gupta, Sr. Advocate; Prof. (Dr.) Narender Kumar; Prof. (Dr.) Ashutosh Kumar; Mr. Arjun Sheoran,Senior DAG- Punjab; Advocate Ajay Paul Jagga- Advocate Punjab & Haryana High Court; Advocate Tanu Bedi, Punjab & Haryana High Court; Advocate Suvir Sidhu- Chairman, Bar Council of Punjab & Haryana.  Prof. Rattan Singh- UILS, Panjab University and Dr. Deepak Srivastava, Associate Professor HNLU were moderators of the sessions. The students of Department of Laws and adjoining colleges from tri city region enthusiastically participated in the seminar.

The Valedictory Ceremony was presided by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel- Chairman- National Green Tribunal. Prof. Dr. Harsh Nayyar, Director- Research & Development, Panjab University graced the valedictory ceremony. The Opening Remarks were delivered by Prof. Devinder Singh, Chairman- Department of Laws; report of Seminar was presented by Dr. Babita Pathania and Vote of Thanks was presented by Advocate Suvir Sidhu, Chairman, Bar Council Punjab & Haryana.
