National Seminar on “Diaspora, Transnationalism and National Migration of Indian Punjabi Populace: Struggles and Transformations"
PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar holds ICSSR Sponsored One Day National Seminar on “Diaspora, Transnationalism and National Migration of Indian Punjabi Populace : Struggles and Transformations".
Jalandhar, March 18, 2023: On the eve of 75 years of Independence and to commemorate ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the Department of English of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar organized an ICSSR sponsored One day National Seminar on the topic "Diaspora, Transnationalism and National Migration of Indian Punjabi Populace : Struggles and Transformations" today.
The Chief Guest for the seminar was Prof(Dr.) Madhu Prashar, Former Principal, Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozpur. In her address, she laid emphasis on Indianization, familial ties and mental equilibrium. The event commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and invoking the blessings of the Almighty. After which floral welcome was offered to the dignitaries by Naresh Kumar Budhia President, Governing Body as well as the Chief Patron, Vinod Dada, Senior Vice- President of the Governing Body, Convenor and Principal Prof(Dr.) Pooja Prashar and Co-Convenor Ujla Dada Joshi, Head and Associate Professor, Department of English. The Principal gave a formal welcome to the guests and gave a brief description about the Institution. Ujla Dada Joshi, Head and Associate Professor delivered the Inaugural Address wherein she briefed on the objective of the seminar.
Prof.(Dr.)Maninder Singh Randhawa, Former Professor and Head Department of Sociology, Punjabi University Patiala delivered the keynote address and enlightened the audience with his remarkable views on gangsterism and drug terrorism which compel youth to migrate. There is a need to remain in touch with our cultural and linguistic roots.
During the Technical Session, the first Resource Person was Dr.Narinder Neb, Former Associate Professor, Department of English, DAV College, Jalandhar. His concerns were homing desire, a sense of unbelongingness and exile hood. The second Resource Person of the Technical Session was Dr.Shefali Chauhan, Assistant Professor, Department of History, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. She elaborated on the Dalit perspective in terms of diaspora.
Prof.Dr. Ravinder Singh, Department of Punjabi, Dyal Singh College,University of Delhi, New Delhi was the Valedictory Speaker of the day. He discussed about the Hindu culture as to how it is looked down upon by the Western Civilisation and that social structures ought to be transformed.A book comprising 39 research papers of distinguished scholars was also released on this auspicious occasion.The vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs. Aabroo Sharma, Coordinator of the seminar. The programme concluded with the National Anthem. The Seminar got an overwhelming response from the participants. It served as a learning experience and a resourceful exchange of ideas for all. President Shri Naresh Kumar Budhia, Senior Vice President Shri Vinod Dada, other honourable members of the Management Committee and the Principal Dr.Prof. Pooja Prashar congratulated the Department of English for successfully organizing the event.
