PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar holds ICSSR Sponsored National Seminar on “Ease of Doing Business A Passage for Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Inclusive Growth”.
Jalandhar, October 29, 2022: On the eve of 75 years of Independence and for commemorating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the PG Department of Commerce & Management of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar organized an ICSSR sponsored One-Day National Seminar (offline) on “Ease of Doing Business: A Passage for ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and Inclusive Growth”.
The Chief Guest for the seminar was Dr. D Bhalla, IAS (Retd.), Former Secretary, Lok Sabha, Parliament of India and he is presently serving as the Advisor, Government of Nagaland. The Guest of Honour for the day was Dr. Dharam Singh Sandhu, Registrar, Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Public State Open University, Patiala.
The seminar initiated with lighting the lamp and invoking the blessings of the Almighty. Foral welcome was offered to the dignitaries by Shri Vinod Dada, Senior Vice- President of the Governing Body and Dr. Kiran Arora, Member, Governing Body, Prof. (Dr.) Pooja Prashar, Principal and Patron, Alka Sharma, Head, PG Department of Commerce & Management and the Convenor of seminar, Dr. (Mrs.) Kuljeet Kaur, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Commerce & Management and the Coordinator of the seminar.
Principal formally welcomed the guests and gave a brief description about the institution. Mrs. Alka Sharma delivered the introductory note on the said topic. Further, she deliberated upon how India moved from a closed licensed and quota-based economy to a relatively open economy with global perspective and is further progressing to an economy with too many reforms leading to 'Aatamnirbharta' and Inclusive Growth.
The Plenary Session started with the Presidential Remarks by the Chief Guest of the Day, Dr. D. Bhalla, IAS (Retd.) where he spoke about the incumbent government’s initiatives in ease of doing business and was of the view that favorable business environment is a pre-requisite for economic growth of any nation. He was quite optimistic that India will have a positive growth rate even if the recession hits the world for the next two years. He talked about long overdue reforms which were implemented in 2014 by the Prime Minister who laid emphasis on transforming India into a manufacturing hub. He talked about GST -'One Nation One Tax Regime' , PMJDY, insolvency and bankruptcy Code 2016, role of MSMEs in country’s GDP, PMMY, MSME Samadhan, Udyog Adhar, Shram Suvidha Portal, Labour Reforms in the form of Wage Code - 2019, Code On Social Security, Occupation ,Health And Working Conditions Code, Industrial Relations Code 2020. He held that India has although entered 'Amritkal', however, a vibrant and better economy for FDI will only be ensured by a friendly business environment. The notion 'Why India?' has been changed to 'Why Not India?'
The Guest of Honour also elaborated on the Ease of Doing Business and India’s journey from self-sufficiency to self-reliance. He highlighted PM Modi’s initiatives and strong intent has led India to become a global market for the increasing FDIs. The plenary session was concluded by the Vote of Thanks presented by Shri Vinod Dada. After the plenary session, there were two Technical Sessions. The Chairperson for the First Technical Session was Dr. Jaspal Singh, Professor, University School of Financial Studies, GNDU Amritsar who elaborated on 'One District, One Product', a government initiative. The Resource Person for this session was Dr. Sidharth Seth, Entrepreneur and Post-Doctoral Fellow, GNDU Amritsar. He presented a short clipping of Film Guru in concern with the topic. The Chairperson for the Second Technical Session was Dr. Shiba C. Panda, Professor, University of Delhi. His discourse was about the role MSME sector. The Resource Person for the Second Session was Dr. Ashish Arora, Head, UBS, GNDU College, Jalandhar who dicussed the government initiatives for small business entrepreneurs. The Valedictory Address was read by Dr. Shiba C. Panda. Then, the Vote of Thanks speech was presented by Dr. (Mrs.) Kuljeet Kaur. The programme was concluded with the National Anthem. Around 125 research papers were received by the Department out of which, the selected papers have been published with an ISBN. Shikha Puri, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Commerce & Management and the Organizing Secretary for the Seminar handled the stage effectively. The seminar served as a learning experience and a resourceful exchange of ideas for all. The seminar was attended by academicians from different universities and colleges, political leaders, policy makers, business executives and the students.
