National Seminar on “Ethical Use of AI in Research and Role of Libraries”
The Department of Library and Information Science (DLIS), Panjab University Chandigarh, today organised a one-day National Seminar sponsored by the ICSSR (Indian Council of Social Science Research) North-Western Regional Center, Chandigarh, on the theme “Ethical Use of AI in Research and Role of Libraries”.

Chandigarh, February 14, 2025: The Department of Library and Information Science (DLIS), Panjab University Chandigarh, today organised a one-day National Seminar sponsored by the ICSSR (Indian Council of Social Science Research) North-Western Regional Center, Chandigarh, on the theme “Ethical Use of AI in Research and Role of Libraries”.
The seminar was aimed to explore the transformative impact of AI on academia while addressing critical ethical challenges. As AI becomes increasingly integrated into research and library services, issues such as data privacy, academic integrity, and responsible AI usage demand urgent attention. The seminar served as a platform for academicians, researchers, and librarians to discuss ethical frameworks, best practices, and the evolving role of libraries in guiding AI adoption in scholarly environments.
The inaugural session was presided over by PU Director, Research and Development Cell Prof. Yojna Rawat. The keynote address was delivered by DLIS, Kurukshetra University Prof. Dinesh K. Gupta, who highlighted the ethical dimensions of AI in research and its implications for academic integrity. DLIS, University of Kashmir, Srinagar Prof. Sumeer Gul, delivered a special address, emphasising the role of AI in shaping future research methodologies.
More than 60 papers were received from the North-West Region for the seminar. Dr. Shiv Kumar presented the vote of thanks.
