National Seminar on Punjab Elections 2022 held in Doaba College
The PG Department of Political Science, Doaba College, Jalandhar organized ICSSR sponsored National Seminar on “Punjab Elections 2022: Reflections on Leadership, Caste, Identity and Issues of Governance” on July 29, 2023. Chander Mohan, President, Arya Shiksha Mandal and Doaba College Managing Committee Grace as the chief guest of the occasion. Dr. Sukhdev Singh Sohal, Retd. Professor and Head, Dept. of History and School of Social Sciences, GNDU, Amritsar was the keynote speaker.
Jalandhar, July 31, 2023: The PG Department of Political Science, Doaba College, Jalandhar organized ICSSR sponsored National Seminar on “Punjab Elections 2022: Reflections on Leadership, Caste, Identity and Issues of Governance” on July 29, 2023. Chander Mohan, President, Arya Shiksha Mandal and Doaba College Managing Committee Grace as the chief guest of the occasion. Dr. Sukhdev Singh Sohal, Retd. Professor and Head, Dept. of History and School of Social Sciences, GNDU, Amritsar was the keynote speaker.
The event was initiated with the lamp lighting ceremony by Chander Mohan, Dr. Pardeep Bhandari, Principal, Doaba College, Dr. Sukhdev Singh Sohal, Dr. Simran Sidhu, Head of Dept. Journalism and Mass Communication, Dr. Vinay Girotra Head of Dept. Political Science, and Dr. Nirmal Singh, Seminar Convenor. The dignitaries were accorded a floral welcome by the Principal, faculty members, scholars from different colleges, and students of the college.
In his welcome address, Dr. Pradeep Bhandari, gave a brief introduction to the College and applauded the efforts of the Department to organize a seminar on a contemporary topic which has global relevance. In the opening remarks, Dr. Nirmal Singh, Seminar Convener, said that elections are a festival of Democracy. He hoped to arouse new aspirations for voters to learn new things about the politics of Punjab through the event.
Dr. Sohal, in his keynote address, said that Democracy is based on the centrality of elections .Voting decisions are often driven by extra economic considerations. India is not only a democracy but also a welfare state. In his Presidential address, Chander Mohan briefed about national politics. He emphasized the need for introspection on the part of citizens for the betterment of Punjab. Students of different departments shared their questions in the discussion session. The dignitaries were then honoured with mementos. Dr. Vinay Girotra extended a vote of thanks.
Dr. Anjali Mehra, Associate Professor and Head, Dept. of Social Sciences, GNDU, Amritsar was the resource person of the second session. The Principal formally welcomed her with a plant sapling. Dr Anjali Mehra chaired the session in which five papers were presented by the professors of different colleges. It was followed by a question-answer session.
The valedictory address was delivered by Rajiv Bhaskar. Seminar certificates were distributed in the valedictory session. Dr. Nirmal Singh proposed a vote of thanks. Professor Priya Chopra conducted the stage.
