National Seminar on “Scenario of Higher Education in India” held

Under the aegis of Gujranwala Khalsa Educational Council, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College organized a one-day National Seminar on “Scenario of Higher Education in India” on Saturday.

Ludhiana, February 25, 2023: Under the aegis of Gujranwala Khalsa Educational Council, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College organized a one-day National Seminar on “Scenario of Higher Education in India” on Saturday. It was sponsored by College Development Council, Panjab University Chandigarh. The occasion was graced by the honourable presence of Dr. S.S. Johal, Former Chancellor, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda and Dr. Kuldip Puri Professor, Deptt. of Education Panjab University Chandigarh.

On the occasion, three books entitled “Ensuring Quality in College Education” written by Dr. Hargunjot Kaur, “Scenario of Higher Education in India” edited by Dr. Arvinder Singh and “Higher Education: Challenges & Opportunities” edited by Dr. Hargunjot Kaur were also released. More than 40 scholars from different institutions attended the seminar and presented their papers in two technical sessions. The sessions were chaired by Dr. Parminder Kaur, Principal Lyallpur Khalsa College of Education, Jalandhar.    

The event started with the floral welcome of the guests and after that Principal of the college, Dr. Arvinder Singh while showing his gratitude to the esteemed guests for gracing the occasion, enlightened the audience with the magnificent history of the college and said that the prime objective of the institution is to promote excellence by providing quality education and at the same time ensuring the holistic development of the students. Dr. Hargunjot Kaur, Coordinator IQAC, while discussing the theme of the seminar, gave detailed information about all the activities carried out by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college in previous years. She said that this cell is channelizing all efforts and measures of the institution towards academic excellence. 

After that Dr. S. P. Singh, Former Vice- Chancellor GNDU, Amritsar and President, Gujranwala Khalsa Educational Council, discussed the obstacles and challenges in the way of Higher Education in India and emphasized the need to take revolutionary steps in order to overcome the problems. Keynote address was delivered by Dr. Kuldip Puri, who discussed curriculum-aspects, teaching-learning-evaluation, and teaching competency. He suggested ways in which teachers could improve themselves and give their contributions to improving students by encouraging them for their career progression. He also emphasized that the Higher educational institutions need to invest significantly in their digital infrastructure to match the requirements of a modern education experience.

In his presidential address, Dr. S. S. Johal gave his valuable insights about quality in higher education. While saying that education is an instrument of change, he discussed the major role of accreditation agencies and their impact on educational system and how NEP can contribute to strengthening the Indian education system. He said that the challenges and priorities of educational institutions have changed significantly over the last few years and are likely to continue to change at a swift pace. 

Universities and Colleges must adapt quickly and astutely to keep up with this ever-changing landscape of modern education delivery. The seminar ended with the vote of thanks by Arvinder Singh, Honorary General Secretory, Khalsa Educational Council. He said that such events are important to create awareness about the emerging trends in higher education as well as to discuss the challenges in its way. Harsharan Singh Narula, Member GKEC, Dr. Parvinder Singh, Principal GGNIMT, Dr. Shikha Sehajpal, Principal, GGN Khalsa College of Pharmacy, faculty members and students were present during the event.
