National seminar on Science and Technology: Trends and Technology held at GGN Khalsa College
Ludhiana, February 15, 2019: A one-day National Seminar on the topic “Science and Technology: Trends and Challenges” was organised by the Faculty of Sciences, Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Civil Lines, Ludhiana. Prof Geoff Layer, Vice-Chancellor, University of Wolverhampton, (England) and Dr Karamjit Singh, Registrar, Panjab University, Chandigarh, graced the inaugural session with their benign presence as the chief guest and the guest of honour, respectively. College Principal, Dr Arvinder Singh, formally welcomed the guests. He, while sharing his views, said that the main objective of this seminar which has been organised by the faculty of sciences, is to provide a platform to the teachers, research scholars and students of this stream, to update them with the contemporary trends and challenges in the field of Science and technology. Dr S.P. Singh (Vice-Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar) Honourary General Secretary, Gujranwala Khalsa Educational Council, told that five books based on Science and Technology; Chemical Science, Computer Science, Life Science, Maths and Physics are being published. He further added that these books are the outcome of two-day International Conference which was held last year and around 350 research papers were received. The motive of publishing these books is to encourage the activities of science and technology in the college. Prof (Ms) Asha Rani briefed on the content of these five books. Dr (Ms) Geeta Jalan, coordinator, shared the motive of this particular topic of seminarwith the guests and delegates.
Dr Karamjit Singh, Registrar, Panjab University, Chandigarh, had all the praises for Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Ludhiana as he applauded the endeavours of the faculty members for organising such seminars and conferences through which the students, research scholars and teachers are benefited on the intellectual level.
Dr S.S. Baari, former Registrar, Panjab University, Chandigarh said that India will rise as a powerful country in the field of science and technology if the young lot of students start exploring the new trends and challenges in this field.
Dr Pushpendra P. Singh, Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar emphasised and encouraged the students to learn advance and new technologies along with keeping themselves updated regarding the research which has been conducted in this field.
Dr Opinderjit Kaur Takhar, Director of Centre for Sikh and Panjabi Studies, University of Wolverhampton, (England) threw light on the achievements in the field of computer science in India.
Prof Geoff Layer, in his Presidential address, emphasised that India is becoming an advanced and developed nation globally as far as science and technology is concerned. He also threw light on the importance of science and technology in the developing countries like India. Innovation brings along the mistakes as well, but what matters is how and what we learn from those mistakes and also, most importantly, ‘why’ that mistake had occurred. Science and Technology is there to help and make great changes in higher education system. The misuse of science and development of science and technology has brought us to a place where we are forced to conduct research on how to reuse and recycle the plastic bags and other products made up of plastic which have been dumped in the rivers.
He appreciated the efforts and contribution of college Management Committee, Principal, Teaching and Non-Teaching staff and the students for organising this seminar.
