National voluntary blood donation day celebrated
Ludhiana, October 1, 2018: 1st October mark as “National voluntary blood donation day” which is celebrated on every year all over the country .Department of Immunohaematology & Blood Transfusion was celebrated this day by conducting lectures & camps inside and outside the hospital premises. The significance of this day is to create the awareness for safe blood and to encourage regular voluntary blood donors. Five voluntary blood donation camps organized at different locations inside and outside the DMCH by the Department of Immunohaematology & Blood Transfusion in which medical and paramedical staff had donated the blood for the National blood donation day. During the lecture Dr. Amarjit Kaur, Professor & Head of the Department threw lights on the myths and facts related to blood donation. She said any person between the age of 18 and 65, weighing more than 45 kg is eligible for donation, provided he has not suffered from any infectious diseases, like typhoid and TB, He should not be suffering from chronic diseases like asthama, allergy, hepatitis, AIDS, STD and cancer. Hypertensives can donate blood under medical supervision. Females cannot donate blood during menstruation, pregnancy and one year after child birth. Blood donation doesn’t give any type of pain or bodily weakness. Blood can be donated after every three months. Dr. Rajesh Kumar (Professor, Department of Blood Transfusion) Dr Sonia Singh (Associate ,Professor Department of Blood Transfusion) conducted his lecture with a message that more and more people should come forward and spare 10 minutes from their lives to donate blood for the cause of humanity and need of the poor. He hoped that voluntary donors would not only donate blood at the nearest blood center but would also spread the message of enrolling young volunteers for blood donation. At DMCH, a special emphasis has been placed on the safe supply of blood by testing it through the latest machines of world class technology. ‘Safe blood and economy of blood’ is our motto. Dr. Sandeep Puri, Principal DMCH appreciated the contribution of regular voluntary blood donors for their overwhelming support and contribution towards voluntary blood donation.
