Nawanshahr to have six ‘pink polling booths’, two in each three of assembly segments
Whole staff in pink polling booths would be women-Vishesh Sarangal
Nawanshahr, January 20, 2022: In a new initiative to encourage participation of the female in the entire polling process, the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district would have six ‘Pink Polling Booths’, two in each three of assembly segments when the electors would exercise their franchise in the assembly election on February 20.
Reviewing the preparations of these popollig booths in the district, District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal said that that these polling booths would be exclusively managed by only women teams during polls on February 20.
He said that the entire staff in such polling booths, including the polling staff, police and security personnel, would be women.
He said that the polling booths would be distinguished by its pink design, including pink walls and table covers.
Envisioning this instrumental step, Sarangal said the move would help to break the gender stereotypes that women employees are usually reluctant in doing election duties whereas the women are excelling in every area of the society through their hard work and dedication.
The Deputy Commissioner said that this is a leap further towards women empowerment and gender equality.
Sarangal said that this would also boost the confidence in the women polling staff thereby encouraging them to perform their duty far more diligently and efficiently besides would also send a message among the women voters to participate in the voting process in large numbers.
Sarangal also said that 45 Model Polling Booths including 15 in each three of constituency would be set up in the district on February 20 to accord a red carpet welcome to the electors on the polling day.
He said that every assembly segment would have 15 Model polling booths which would have good condition of building, decorated with flowers, rangoli, beautiful paintings, queue management, provision of basic facilities of drinking water, medical aid, toilets, volunteers for assistance and others.
Further, Deputy Commissioner further stated that the administration would also set up a Divyang polling booth in Nawanshahr constituency which would be managed by Persons with Disabilities (PWD) staff.
The district has 255693 males, 239542 females and 22 third gender voters.
