Jalandhar, June 5, 2024: The NCC Unit of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar, marked World Environment Day with a series of initiatives dedicated to fostering environmental consciousness and sustainability. In light of the extensive environmental degradation resulting from global warming and various other factors, the institution embarked on this initiative to elevate awareness and foster sustainability.
The event was orchestrated under the guidance of Colonel Maninder Singh Sachdeva, Commanding Officer of the 2 Punjab Girls Battalion, as part of their Environment Awareness Initiative.
The celebration aimed to instill a profound sense of environmental responsibility among the students. As a part of the initiative, students planted saplings in various locations, both within the college premises and in the surrounding localities, contributing to the community’s greenery.
In a move to mitigate plastic usage, students distributed handmade cloth bags to local shopkeepers, advocating for the discontinuation of plastic bags.
Reinforcing the institution's commitment to being a plastic-free zone, students solemnly pledged to reject plastic use.
Extending their environmental efforts beyond the college, cadets also planted saplings in their residential areas. They crafted informative charts and slogans to raise environmental awareness, which were subsequently shared on social media platforms to reach a wider audience.
President Shri Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice President Shri Vinod Dada, and other members of the managing committee and Principal Prof. (Dr.) Pooja Prashar commended the initiatives undertaken by the NCC Incharge Captain Priya Mahajan and her cadets. The Jalandhar Welfare Society also played a supportive role in this noble venture.
This celebration underscored the institution’s dedication to environmental sustainability and highlighted the active participation of its students in championing green initiatives.
