Neerja Bhanot Hall, PU organized Awareness talk on Your hair can tell your health

Chandigarh, October 17, 2018: The north Indian states contributed greatly to the Indian green revolution after independence. The practices involved in the green revolution brought the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. The Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh are witnessing an increase in cancer cases day by day. According to data of WHO (2017), China and India recorded the highest number deaths related to breast cancer. Many new cancer hospitals and diagnostic centers are coming up across north India. There is dire need of accessible diagnostic techniques for detection of cancer at early stages.
Dr. Archana Chauhan warden of Neerja Bhanot Hall (Girls Hostel No. 10) introduced and welcomed Dr. Ashish. Dr. Ashish, from IMTECH, Chandigarh delivered an awareness talk on Connection between hair and breast cancer in at the Neerja Bhanot Hall, Girls Hostel No. 10, Sector 25, Panjab University, Chandigarh on October 16th, 2018. Dr. Ashish unveiled the latest technology that his laboratory for no invasive and affordable early diagnostic technique for the detection of cancer and other diseases.
Dr. Ashish gave an overview of the BRCA1 which regulates the development of hair follicles (keratin/ lipid) and its relation to cancer. He also shared information about SAXS (small X-Ray scattering) where hair sample is exposed to focused scattering for early diagnosis of cancer. Dr. Ashish also gave an overview of a commercial model of fermiscan how they plan to implement it to the benefit of the society.
