Dharamsala, October 11, 2023: The Dharamsala's Gaggal Airport is planning to introduce new flight routes to enhance connectivity to other areas. Dhirendra Singh, the Airport Director, mentioned that new flights from Dharamsala to Amritsar, Kullu, and Dehradun are in the works and will be launched soon. Currently, the Gaggal Airport mainly operates five daily flights to Delhi, with an additional flight to Shimla and Chandigarh.
As the Cricket World Cup matches are taking place in Dharamsala, there's also an influx of chartered flights to the region. To cater to international tourists, plans are underway to establish a currency exchange counter at the airport.
Furthermore, the expansion of the Kangra Airport is progressing rapidly. Initially intended to be completed in two phases, it's now planned to be done in a single phase. The expansion aims to increase the length of the runway from 1,372 meters to 3,110 meters, enabling larger planes to land.
To facilitate passenger transportation from the airport to Dharamshala, there are plans to introduce shuttle buses. Additionally, local craftsmen are being offered stalls at Kangra Airport to display their products at affordable prices under a special scheme, encouraging more people to take advantage of this opportunity. These developments aim to improve the transportation and amenities at Gaggal Airport, making it more convenient and accessible for travelers.
