Newly established blood bank inaugurated in Aykai Hospital

Ludhiana: Blood transfusion is an indispensable component of health care. It contributes to saving millions of lives each year in both routine and emergency situations, permits increasingly complex medical and surgical interventions and dramatically improves the life expectancy and quality of life of patients. Patients who require transfusion as part of their clinical management have the right to expect that sufficient blood will be available to meet their needs and to receive the safest blood possible. 

Dr Rajeev Bagga, Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana inaugurated newly established Blood Bank in Aykai Hospital, for providing safe blood and its components to the needy patients. He congratulated the management and staff of the hospital and encouraged them to motivate community for their participation towards the noble deed of blood donation.

Dr B S Aulakh, Urologist & Transplant Surgeon & Director and Chairman, Aykai Hospital welcomed the Chief Guest and marked the establishment of blood bank as one of the necessary achievements for the convenience of the patients in the hospital as well as its periphery. He also outlined the road map for upgrading medical facilities in the hospital. We are committed to provide best services to the patients & stem cell facility.

A Scientific Program was also held for the doctors, in which, Dr Rimpreet Walia, Incharge of Blood Bank, apprised the audience about the facilities available in the blood bank and highlighted the importance of Leucoreduced blood components in preventing transfusion reactions to the recipients.

Dr Hitish Narang, Senior Consultant and BTO, appealed to voluntary organizations to come forward for blood donation and encouraged for public participation. He also delivered an awareness talk on Blood Components and Blood Safety for the doctors, staff nurses and technical staff involved in blood bank activities. 

The Program ended with Vote of Thanks by Dr Rimpreet Walia. He thanked all the dignitaries and the doctors who participated in the scientific program.
