NHAI chairman assures MP Arora to look into demand for establishing cycle tracks, parking space and spurs in City
AAP MP (Rajya Sabha) from Ludhiana Sanjeev Arora met National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav in New Delhi on Monday and urged upon him to consider a growing demand for establishing cycle tracks, parking space, and connecting spurs in the city with Industrial clusters.
Ludhiana, June 7, 2023: AAP MP (Rajya Sabha) from Ludhiana Sanjeev Arora met National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav in New Delhi on Monday and urged upon him to consider a growing demand for establishing cycle tracks, parking space, and connecting spurs in the city with Industrial clusters.
Giving this information here today, Arora said during his meeting with the NHAI chairman, he appreciated NHAI for making an elevated road in Ludhiana city. He apprised the NHAI chairman there is some delay going on for which he requested him to take up so that the traffic issues being faced by citizens due to construction is resolved at the earliest possible.
Arora also submitted a report prepared by the NHAI Project Director which reveals that around 750 vehicles can be parked between the service road and main carriage along the elevated road. He said this is especially important as there are commercial establishments on both sides of the road. He requested to the NHAI chairman to get the approval accorded so that parking slots can be made to avoid any traffic chaos going forward.
Arora also urged up the NHAI chairman to establish cycle track along the NHAI roads. He apprised the NHAI chairman that on the 3rd of June it was World Bicycle Day. In this connection, he attended quite a few functions in Ludhiana organised by Cycle Industry. He pointed out that Ludhiana is a hub for cycle manufacturing in the world. The largest cycle manufacturing unit in the world is in Ludhiana.
Further, Arora apprised the NHAI chairman that the bicycle is a mode of transportation being used more and more in western countries. The advantages of cycles are that these are environmentally friendly, good for people’s health and affordable means of transportation for common man. He, therefore, requested to make cycle track along with NHAI highways wherever possible and feasible. He suggested that in Ludhiana cycle tracks could be made along Laddowal Bypass, Ferozepur Road, and Elevated Road. He further mentioned that according to his information some proposals are already lying with Head Office. He asked the NHAI chairman, “Let us set an example with Ludhiana how bicycles can be used for transportation as in countries like Netherland.”
During his meeting, Arora appreciated the way NHAI infrastructure work is going on in the State of Punjab and in Ludhiana particularly. He pointed out that there is lot of Industry in and around the city. Also, an Industrial Park is coming up under PM Gati shakti scheme. He, therefore, requested to connect all industrial clusters with National Highways by constructing spurs at all the feasible sites. He apprised the NHAI chairman that Project Director NHAI is aware of this issue which was also brought up and discussed in the District Administration committee chaired by him recently.
Further Arora also spoke to Vipnesh Sharma, Regional Officer, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, (MORTH) Govt of India apprising him of meeting with Chairman and, he assured of all the support possible.
Arora said meeting with the NHAI chairman was very constructive with assurance going forward on all these issues.
