Phillaur, May 29, 2023: DRV DAV Centenary Public School, Phillaur observed ‘No Bag Day’ on Saturday in lines with the National Education Policy 2020 as it recommends that students must have no bag days at least 10 days in a year.
To reduce the pressure of studies on the students, Saturday was observed as a No Bag Day for the physical, mental and intellectual development of students. So, for this special day – a day off from studies- special activities were planned for different classes in both Kids and Main block. The major goal of establishing this day is to add more colour to students' learning by training them in other areas apart from books with the aim of providing a joyful learning experience for them. Students arrived at school in school uniform with their lunch box, water bottle and required stationary only.
The day commenced with morning prayer followed by breathing exercise and gratitude meditation to provide a spiritual start. Following the morning assembly, planned activities got underway according to the schedule. For classes I to V flameless cooking, gardening and book covering activities were conducted. In addition to these activities, news paper reading activity was also conducted for classes III to V. Likewise, in VI std. Book Wrapping activity and tips to take care of body, skin and general health and hygiene instructions were given and practised under Self- Love and Well-being theme, students of class VII were given gardening related tips under the theme ‘Nature Care’ where they got chance to go near the nature by sowing seeds, cutting the hedges, watering the plants etc. Also, they were given some special self-defence tricks and moves under ‘Survival Instinct’ activity. Class VIII students under Artful Endeavours, made beautiful handmade gift items, bookmarks and wall hangings.
For promoting financial literacy among the students of class IX, DAV Bank was created where children were taught to fill cheques, vouchers for depositing and withdrawing money and other general procedures to be followed in a bank and also, they participated in Tinker-Winker activity which was organized in the ATL Lab of the school where the students were taught about changing the wiring of the batteries, PVC machines and drill machines. Knick-Knack Bouteille activity was held for class X students where they reused the plastic bottles, decorated them beautifully to grow plants in them by emphasising on the 3 R’s scheme for saving environment.
For std XI, Bonanza-Bag-O-Fun activity was organised where the students prepared Eco-Craft Bags by using the paper and waste material. They prepared the striking and beautiful envelopes and bags of different sizes by giving the message of ‘Stop Using the Plastic Bags’. And the senior-most class, class XII students designed and prepared the beautiful attires and outfits using newspapers. Also, they showcased their artistic work in a ramp walk show. Students had a great time, picked up a variety of skills, and returned to their homes with a wealth of unique memories from the school.
Principal Dr. Yogesh Gambhir stated that reducing study-related stress on students has been a long-standing demand. and No Bag Day is an effort to make education an enjoyable activity and promote the right attitude through interactive and child-centred teaching techniques.
