NO BREAKTHROUGH: Residents of Wariana village face bizarre incident

Jalandhar, November 2, 2012: In a bizarre incident of, either gas leak, burning of chillies or the injurious gas emanated from the burning of straw in the fields from the solid waste dumping site of the Municipal Corporation just at a distance of about 1000 ft resulting in irritation in eyes, discomfort in breathing, vomiting, one of the residents fell unconscious, he was rushed to the hospital late last in the evening at Wariana village on Kapurthala road.

Incidentally between 8  to 9 pm yesterday, residents of village Wariana experienced discomfort in breathing, irritation in the eyes and burning of eyes, cough and vomiting and one of  the resident stated to be unconscious, he was rushed to the hospital, for  intensive care.

The residents first feared about the burning of the red chillies, the cause of discomfort, secondly inhabitants discussed over that there could be ammonia gas leakage from a cold storage about 550 feet away.

Scared with the incident residents came out of their homes and took shelter in Shri Guru Ravi Dass Bhawan.

Two of the victims were admitted to the hospital.

The Civil Surgeon Dr R. L. Bassan and Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM)-II, Jalandhar, Isha Kalia were immediately rushed to the site. After inspecting the cold starage, she revealed that there was no symptoms of any ammonia gas leakage. The Civil Surgeon deputed a team of doctors at Guru Ravi Dass Bhawan, for first aid of the sick. An ambulance 108 was also pressed into service.

It is learnt that Rajni, Mahinder Kaur, Beant Kaur were  said to be in serious condition reaching the hospital, they were placed on oxygen masks. Now they were out of danger said Dr Bassan.

However the mystery could not be solved by now.

The Deputy Commissioner Priyank Bharti said by now the main cause of the incident is still not known, but efforts are going on to break through the reason behind the event.
