Ludhiana: Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Friday said that there is no need to fear or panic about mucormycosis commonly known as black fungus as the disease is manageable and curable.
Urging the people to don’t believe any rumours or avoid self-medication in a video message, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said that the state government has already declared the black fungus as an epidemic and this disease is not new.
He said it is akin to the fungus that develops on bread due to moisture if stored for long.
He said that Ludhiana has so far witnessed 30 cases and all patients are under treatment in various hospitals. He said the black funds has been seen in undergoing Covid patients/survivors who were given a steroid for a long time or use such drugs indiscriminately by doing self-medication at home.
Deputy Commissioner appealed to the people to take medicine on the doctors’ advice only otherwise irrational use of medicine can cause black fungus.
With the Covid cases have been dipping for the last few days in Ludhiana, Sharma extended operational timing for non-essential shops or private offices by one hour in the curfew and allowed to operate from 5 am to 1 am from Monday to Friday which was earlier 5 am to 12 pm.
The eateries including restaurants, dhabas and others are also allowed to operate from 5 am to 1 pm (for take away only) and till 8 pm, they would be allowed for home delivery, he said that if anyone would be found violating the guidelines, strict action would be taken against the erring.
He said that relaxations have been given to the people as they supported wholeheartedly earlier curfew timings due to which Covid cases have been coming down for the last few days.
Deputy Commissioner solicited the same kind of people participation in this war against the Covid-19 till May 31.
