Chandigarh August 21, 2015:Nobel Laureate and US Scientist Professor Leland H. Hartwell today inspired the DST Inspire students to become problem solvers on the concluding day of 2nd DST Innovation
in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) Internship Camp at Panjab University
(PU) Law Auditorium, Chandigarh. 
More than 500 meritorious students of XI/XII class participated in the five day camp.  
Nobel laureate Prof. Leeland Hartwell enthralled the young students with his inspiring
talk on " Science - The Only Way Forward " via video conferencing. His talk generated a
lot of questions in young minds and Dr. Hartwell patiently satisfied each of the query.
He encouraged students to be problem solvers of tomorrow and motivated and urged the
faculty members to provide such an education at university level which can shape them
into problem solvers. 
Prof. Hartwell's talk generated lot of queries in minds of students which ranged from
"What steps to take to become good problem solvers?" to even questions on medicine and
physiology like "How cancer can be cured" or "What are the key limiting steps in the
cell cycle". Students asked varied questions ranging from sociology and education to
medicine and physiology. These inquisitive minds asked innumerable questions to which he
patiently responded.  
Prof. Hartwell's talk was followed by talk by Prof. Deepak Sharma School of life
Sciences, JNU, New Delhi. He sensitized how the students can harness their brain power
for succeeding in exams and taught the importance of science in personality development. 
After this, Prof. Indu Pal Kaur, Prof Pharmaceutics , University Institute of
Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarh addressed the students on the
topic of Career in Pharmaceutical Sciences : Its Scope and Challenges. She herself being
an eminent pharmaceutical scientist  introduced the students about the importance of
pharmacist in the health care system. 
The last day of camp ended with the valedictory function which was presided over by PU
Vice-Chancellor Professor. Arun Kumar Grover. Prof Grover addressed the audience and PU
DUI Prof. A.K. Bhandari gave advisory remarks. Both encouraged the students to attend
more such camps and work hard for their future. 
Prof. Kanwaljit Chopra, Honorary Co-ordinator of Inspire Internship Camp presented a
brief report about the Inspire Camp Students . Prof. Deepak Sharma, School of life
Sciences, JNU, New Delhi was the chief guest of the day and Prof. Arghya Taraphder,
Professor and head, Department of Physics, The Center for Theoretical Studies and The
School of Nanoscience, IIT-Kharagpur was the guest of honor. 
Students were given away participation certificates and St. John's student Saransh got
the first prize for the best innovative idea at the science exhibition. Students gave a
very good feedback about the camp and were interested to attend more in future.
This 2nd DST-INSPIRE INTERNSHIP CAMP ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. Anurag Kuhad,
Program Co-ordinator for the Inspire Internship camp. He motivated and encouraged the
students to attend more camps like this in future and gain benefit from them. Thus, this
inspire camp ultimatly motivated the students to be like "KALAM". / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
