Chandigarh, November 5, 2015: The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission has asked the Punjab Government to celebrate 26 November as ‘National Constitution Day’ so that the students across the state should be made aware about the Constitution of India and the immense contribution of its maker Dr.Bhim Rao Ambedkar.
The Chairman of the SC Commission, Mr.Rajesh Bagha said that the Commission has asked the state government to hold seminars, debates, quiz contests and other competitions on this day besides honouring the winners by the eminent personalities in every district. He said that this step should be undertaken to ensure that the students have knowledge about the making of the Constitution of the country.
Mr.Bagha said that 26 November is a special day for the people of the country because it was on this day that the Constitution was completed and came into force on 26th January 1950. He also elaborated that this day should act as an occasion to guide people about their fundamental rights and duties as citizens.
Mr.Bagha added that the Commission has written to the Prime Minister of the country Shri Narendra Modi and raised the demand of celebrating 26 November as ‘National Constitution Day’ and conduct debate and quiz competitions in the educational institutions of the state and also convene the special assembly sessions of all the states so that the each aspect of the tremendous contribution of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar could be debated.
