NSKT to set up school for underprivileged children in Ludhiana
School will offer free quality education, including text books and uniform to children from ‘disadvantaged backgrounds’
Ludhiana: In order to provide a major thrust to education, Nehru Sidhant Kender Trust (NSKT), founded in 1983 by Late Shri Sat Paul Mittal today announced that it will set up K-12 school starting from primary and scaling up to elementary and secondary in a phased manner for underprivileged children in Ludhiana, which will provide free education including books and uniforms.
The guiding philosophy behind setting up of the school is to ensure the underprivileged children belonging to the low income category in Ludhiana is provided with an access to quality education. The Trust will lay emphasis on the ‘girl child’.
Keeping in mind the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) for socially and economically disadvantaged sections (currently at 16-22% range in comparison to the National GER at approx. 26%), the Trust is instituting meritorious scholarships for Under Graduate (UG) courses for underprivileged students. The scholarship will be awarded to exceptional students from economically disadvantaged background with focus on the girl child to pursue full-time UG studies at any University of their choice. The scholarships has been instituted to help meritorious students belonging from economically weak background to pursue higher studies.
Mr. Rakesh Bharti Mittal, President - Nehru Sidhant Kender Trust, made an announcement to this effect at a press conference here today. He said, “Education today has become a key enabler to economic upliftment and we have been encouraged with the success of our Satya Bharti School program run by Bharti Foundation in the State of Punjab. In line with that philosophy and to further create positive impact, today the Trust is delighted to announce the school initiative for the underprivileged with a special focus on the girl child. We believe that this initiative of bringing quality education will go a long way in benefiting the children in need of holistic education”
“Further, we are pleased to enhance the scholarship amount for District Toppers and the objective behind it is to hand hold disadvantaged bright students to pursue their courses at graduate level. Thus the Trust will support full education of the district toppers for graduation.”
Over the years Nehru Sidhant Kender Trust has been actively involved in helping the poor and weaker sections of the society with a special focus on education. Every year, the Trust gives away various scholarships, awards and organizes cultural activities. Till date, the Trust has provided scholarships to over 18,900 underprivileged students under various scholarship schemes. Additionally, the Trust has also set up the Sat Paul Mittal School – a leading educational institution in Northern India providing quality education.
