NSS Camp concludes at PAU, volunteers pay tributes to Ashoka Awardee Shaheed Lt Triveni Singh

The seven-day NSS camp, organised by the Directorate of Students’ Welfare, concluded at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on Tuesday. As per the directions of the Government of India, the camp was held under the theme "Meri Maati Mera Desh, Maati Ko Naman, Veeron Ka Vandan," emphasizing the importance of honoring our soil and paying homage to the brave souls who defended it.

Ludhiana, August 16, 2023: The seven-day NSS camp, organised by the Directorate of Students’ Welfare, concluded at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on Tuesday. As per the directions of the Government of India, the camp was held under the theme "Meri Maati Mera Desh, Maati Ko Naman, Veeron Ka Vandan," emphasizing the importance of honoring our soil and paying homage to the brave souls who defended it. The camp concluded with a heartfelt tribute to the esteemed PAU alumnus and Ashoka Awardee, Shaheed Lt Triveni Singh, who graduated from 1996-2000 batch. Lt Triveni Singh's life was tragically cut short during a terrorist attack while saving 300 civilians at the Jammu railway station in 2004. To honor his legacy, his father Captain Janmej Singh was felicitated during this event. More than 700 participants paid rich tributes to the PAU alumnus.
Captain Janmej Singh shared his son’s memories and urged the youth to always be ready to serve the nation and make India from developing to developed country.

The Vice-Chancellor Dr Satbir Singh Gosal graciously acknowledged Lt Singh's supreme sacrifice for the nation.
In a gesture of everlasting remembrance, a plant was planted in the Botanical Garden of PAU in the memory of Lt Singh, ensuring his spirit lives on. The deans, directors, officers, faculty members and students also came together to pay homage to the martyr.

The NSS volunteers led by the Director of Students’ Welfare Dr Nirmal Singh Jaura, and NSS Coordinator Dr Harmeet Singh Saralch, participated in various activities including plantation of traditional trees, campus cleanliness and beautification, awareness rallies against societal ills, celebrations of International Youth Day, poster-making competition, donation drive, and grand celebration of Independence Day.

The certificates were distributed among the volunteers for best posters made during the competition.

The event was coordinated by Dr Divya Utreja. Among others present were Dr Puspinder Kaur, Dr Mandeep Sharma, Dr Harpreet Singh, Dr Kousik Mandal, Dr Sanjay Satpute, and Ms Ramanjit Kaur.
