Chandigarh, December 10, 2019: The Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with the Rotary Chandigarh Midtown, UNESCO Network Chair and Social Substance organized Nukkad Natak in Gandhi Bhawan relating to the prevailing drug trafficking in the Schools, Colleges, Universities on the occasion of Human Rights Day, here today. The members of the Red Art organization staged a play and asked the audience members to shun away from the ill effects of the drug abuse and its related activities. In the second segment special discussion series was organized in the Seminar Hall where the Chairperson of the Department Dr. Manish Sharma informed the objectives of this series of discussions being started on Human Rights Day. Dr. Arun Kumar talked about the rights relating to the Health and the awareness needed for the same. He talked about the incidents/things relating to the day to day life. He also talked about his NGO, Social Substance that how they are removing the waste from nearby houses or any surroundings and also from different offices. He talked about minimizing the wastage of medicines left out in any household which should be send to the needy. Rtn Salil Bali talked about the rights of the women and also stressed that instead of asking the corrections from the women folk we should have the counselling of the boys and men so that they should not indulge in the wrong activities relating to the women and also stressed that all have the equal rights of living a healthy life. Ms. Anupam Jain stressed that the proper process relating to the rights and emergency numbers should be shared with everyone so that the same can be utilised when needed. She also stressed that the men should give equal respect to the women also. Mr. Satish Verma talked about the need for change in the education system. Dr. Manish Sharma stressed that we need to follow the concept of Gandhi as he believed in the concept of ‘Be the Change you want to see in this world’ and he also stressed that we need to be more focussed on our Duties than on rights. The event was attended by large number of faculty members from other department including Prof. M. L. Sharma, Dr. (Ms.) Navjot, Chairperson, Department of Political Science and others.
