"NZCC to host Rang Shashthi”, a mega Summer Theatre Festival from May 2

A vibrant celebration of Indian theatre is all set to make its presence felt for avid theatre lovers in Patiala, the City Royale' from May 2.

Patiala, April 29, 2025: A vibrant celebration of Indian theatre is all set to make its presence felt for avid theatre lovers in Patiala, the City Royale' from May 2.

The North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC), wedded heart and soul to the preservation and promotion of performing and non-performing art forms, will bring you live theatrical fare 'Rang Shashthi', a fascinating Summer Theatre Festival from May 2 to 4, 2025, at the historic Kalidas Auditorium, to be presented by the National School of Drama (NSD) Repertory Company, Delhi, in collaboration with NZCC, Patiala. The daily fixture of the presentation will be 6:30 pm, onwards, daily.

This special event is being organized to mark the 60th anniversary (1964–2024) of the eventful journey of the NSD Repertory Company, a beckoning force behind promoting and nurturing the art of theatre in India. As a part of the mega celebration, the three-day festival will present a series of remarkable theatrical performances, reflecting the subtle art of storytelling of both classical and contemporary genres.

The festival will kickstart on May 2 evening with the staging of “Mai Ri Main Kaise Kahun...”, a power-packed play written and directed by Ajay Kumar, an icon of theatre, paving the way more theatre presentations lined-up during the mega event.

On May 3, the audience will witness the presentation of an acclaimed play “Babu Ji”, an engaging musical presentation that promises to captivate the audience with its rhythmic and narrative acumen.

To mark the grand finale to the 3-day event, May 4 slot will feature “Laila Majnu”, a dramatic adaptation of the historic folk tale of the bygone era under the astute direction of Ram Gopal, a name to reckon with in the theatre world.

Mohd Furqan Khan, Director, North Zonal Cultural Centre, Patiala, on the occasion stated that the festival would be a unique confluence of composite traditions and innovation, offering theatre lovers an opportunity to explore the rich literary and cultural landscape of India through these theme performances.

He called upon all theatre enthusiasts of the city to spare their evenings and come with families and friends to be a part of this grand cultural celebration, the first of its kind in the city known for its rich cultural heritage.
