Ludhiana, March 4, 2022: World obesity day is celebrated on 4th March annually with an aim to create awareness about obesity among the general public. This year's theme of World Obesity Day is “Everybody needs to act.
Obesity is one of the biggest preventable health crises facing the world today, affecting one in six adults worldwide.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ashish Ahuja Professor of Surgery & Bariatric Surgeon said 800 million people are living with obesity world over. The medical consequences of obesity will call over 1 trillion by 2025.People suffering from obesity are twice as likely to be hospitalized if tested positive for covid 19 said Dr. Prabhdeep Singh Nain, Professor of Surgery & Bariatric Surgeon at DMCH.
Many factors play a role in gaining weight and retaining excess weight. These include diet, lack of exercise, environmental factors, and genetics.
On the occasion of world obesity day consultants urged the general public that regular exercise is as important as other routine work. Obesity is a lifestyle disease & together we can cure it.
