One day Workshop on ‘Disaster Vulnerabilities and Mitigation Programme’ at USOL

Chandigarh, January 25, 2023: The Department of Defence & Strategic Studies in University School of Open Learning, Panjab University Chandigarh organized a one-day workshop on “Disaster Vulnerabilities and Mitigation Programme”.
Prof. Meena Dutta set in motion the event by introducing the event and made a mention of Brigadier Jasbir Singh, who fought in the war of 1965. The Brigadier, an inspiration, was himself present in the audience. The welcome address given by Prof. Neeru highlighted the importance of the event, and its suitability to embark on India’s Republic Day celebration with such a charged mindset.
Ashwani Kumar DIG ITBP, the keynote speaker put in picture the hard-work that ITBP and other forces do for us. What commendable duties they commit to, at odd temperatures and perilous locations, to safeguard borders and ensure safety in India. He also highlighted the various tasks assigned to ITBP when the situation goes out of control for the civil forces. In the next segment, all the terms as clarified by DIG regarding disaster, its mitigation strategies and the various challenges which come in the way, were demonstrated live to the audience for the practical knowledge. Prashant, Assistant Commandant in ITBP, and the Inspector Sachin Kumar and his team, gave an awareness lecture and presentation of various inevitable situations, and the measures to deal with the same. They showed four different ways to control blood flow in case of serious injury and the ways to provide first aid for fractures. They also demonstrated how to give Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), which the audience found highly useful. They also showed various other evacuation strategies too.
