One week online short term course inaugurated at GNA University 

Jalandhar: GNA University, Phagwara held the inaugurated of a one week online Short Term Course (STC) on “Data Analytics using R” from May 24, 2021 - May 28, 2021. The researchers, students and other participants from industry all over the globe participated in this online short term course with an objective to understand how data is created, stored, accessed, and how the organization works with data and creates the environment in which analytics can flourish. 

The renowned expert from CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh, Dr. Urvashi Nag was the resource person on the inaugural day of STC. The entire event was conducted by Dr. Disha Khanna, the MOC wherein the event commenced with welcome address by the Chief Guest, S. Gurdeep Singh Sihra, the Pro-Chancellor, GNA University. He congratulated the organizing team for organizing such a mega event during these unprecedented times.

Dr. Urvashi Nag, the resource person gave practical demonstration of various data analytics tools. During the inauguration, she said, “Data Analytics has become an integral part of almost all areas of Engineering, management, social sciences, humanities, and research. The advancement in computing technology has further raised the importance of data analytics and placed great demand on its applications to complex decision-making problems.”

Dr. Monika Hanspal, Dean Academics & the Convener of the STC remarked, “This STC will be very beneficial for budding engineers as this is one of the most emerging areas in the market and companies need students with Data Analytics skill set.” 
 On this Occasion, Dr. V.K Rattan Vice- Chancellor, GNA University said, “GNA University always take a lead to train students and the community on recent advanced technologies.”

Dr. R.K. Mahajan, Registrar, GNA University in his opening remarks commented, “Data analytics is a multidisciplinary field focused on finding actionable insights from large sets of raw and structured data.”

Dr. Vikrant Sharma, Dean, Engineering said, “This STC will address issues in data analytics like the selection of appropriate analytical tools, the right software, interpretation of outputs and techniques to tackle data analysis problems using the powerful open-source language R.”
