Online National FDP on Development of e-content and MOOCS in Four Quadrants under DBT Star Status
More than 200 participants from 18 states of India participate
Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya organised one week online national Faculty Development Program in collaboration with Guru Angad Dev- Teaching Learning Centre, SGTB Khalsa College, University of Delhi on Development of e-content & MOOCS in Four Quadrants sponsored by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.
More than 200 teachers from 18 states of India participated in this week long Faculty Development Program. The FDP was organised by the Department of Sciences under DBT Star Status. Dr AK Bakshi, Chairman, Guru Angad Dev- Teaching Learning Centre, SGTB Khalsa College, University of Delhi was the Chief Guest for the inaugural session. Dr Vimal Rarh, National Co-ordinator, Project Head & Joint Director, Guru Angad Dev- Teaching Learning Centre, SGTB Khalsa College, University of Delhi was also present.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with the welcome address by Principal Prof Dr Atima Sharma Dwivedi. Prof Dwivedi welcomed all the esteemed guests and the participants. She averred that there is a need to transform the traditional class room teaching to digital teaching. A teacher should not only have the knowledge of her subject content but should also have good command on speech. To amalgamate teaching with interactive digital teaching technique is the need of hour and with the objective of empowering a teacher current FDP is being organized. The inaugural address was presented by Dr. Vimal Rarh, Project Head and Joint Director, Guru Angad Dev Teaching Learning Center of MHRD. In her address Dr. Vimal Rarh explained ways of generating e-content at national level. She also elaborated that for upgrading a teacher: faculty empowering workshops, preparation of teacher’s e-kit and multi media enriched videos should be developed. Development of ICT skills and pedagogy for virtual and online teaching is the need of hour, she said. Dr. Rarh divided Teacher’s e-kit into four quadrants viz. Teacher’s manual, Teachers video for flipped class room, teacher’s assignment and teacher’s know more. Prof Dr AK Bakshi in his keynote address gave a talk on Digital Transformation in Higher Education in India: Opportunities & Challenges. Dr Bakshi began his talk by complementing KMV for its progressive & outstanding contribution to the education field in India. He said that KMV is a role model institute for others to follow. The talk of Dr Bakshi was divided into four parts i.e. Digital Transformation and its needs, ICT empowered Pedagogy: Flipped Classroom Model, Integration of ICT and Future of Digital Transformation. Prof Bakshi stated that Digital Transformation helps in enhancing the quality of education & achieving goals of education. He further elaborated on the fact that education is the training of the mind and not learning the facts only. Education should motivate the students to think critically and instil logical reasoning in them. He stated that in India, a lot of emphasis is given on teaching, but not much on effective learning. He further stated that today’s age is of Artificial Learning, where it will equal the intelligence of the students, so it becomes imperative for the teachers to learn new skills and also impart it to their students. Elaborating on the role of technology in education, Prof Bakshi stated that Information & Communication Technology has impacted all areas of education in various forms. He said that MOOCs is a form of e- learning but in a very structured manner. Prof. Bakshi also acquainted all the participants about the SWAYAM portal of Government of India in which any teacher or student can access MOOC of any subject for digital learning. A virtual tour of KMV was also shown to all the participants during the session. Dr Neetu Chopra, Co-ordinator, DBT Star College Status gave Vote of Thanks to all the esteemed guests and participants. Madam Principal lauded the efforts of organising team for successfully organising the one week Faculty Development Workshop.
